Skills and Knowledge to Reduce Crime: A Workforce Development Plan for the Community Justice Sector in England

CJNTO (Community Justice National Training Organisation)

This document draws together the key facts and understandings of the CJNTO at a time when both the Community Justice Sector and the National Training organisations are charged to make a difference, on the one hand by reducing crime, and on the other by raising skills in the work place.

The Directors of the CJNTO see a direct link between raising skill levels in the Community Justice Sector and the reduction of crime. They see a direct relationship between competence and effectiveness, between learning and performance, between understanding and doing.

The CJNTO also see the importance of the increased need for agencies to learn together in the Community Justice Sector, to maximise resources and to reflect joined-up multi-agency practices.

The Workforce Development Plan is the first such document, drawing together a clear agenda for learning, development and qualifications across the Community Justice Sector.

 Chapters in the document include:

  • The Community Justice Sector in England- background information on the history and make-up of the CJNTO

  • The political context

  • Qualifications in the CJ Sector

  • Workforce development needs identified by Sector

And appendices on

  • CJNTO partnerships in the Sector

  • members of the CJNTO at 1st March 2001.
