Victim Profile: Repeat Victimisation

Repeat victimization occurs when the same person or place suffers from more than one incident over a specified period of time. A specific toolkit on repeat victimisation is presently under preparation and a link will be provided here when it is available.

The risks of victims suffering repeat incidents are from the 2001 British Crime Survey and compare the figures with the 2000 British Crime Survey:

The 1998 British Crime Survey shows that in 1997:

*The 7.9% of victims who suffered three or more incidents accounted for over 20% of offences.

The risks of repeat victimisation were highest for:

  • low-income households

  • social renters

  • people in flats

  • residents in: inner cities; council estates; and areas with high levels of vandalism, graffiti, litter and deliberate damage to property
