It should be appreciated that the victim may have significant longer term health care needs. Initially victims may exhibit symptoms of anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). However, in the medium term this may turn into depression and possible suicidal thoughts. After-care and support must be available.

For those victims under consideration of being returned home to their country of origin, links should be made where possible to  voluntary return schemes and liaison established with NGOs in the country of origin..
