Central Government Targets
Many of the Crime and Disorder Act Statutory Partnerships have included targets
to reduce robbery within their Crime and Disorder Strategies. In March this year
the Police Authorities from the Metropolitan Authorities set their own five-year targets

In June 2000, the Home Office announced that a specific anti-robbery fund of £20
million would be made available to the five Metropolitan forces in England and Wales.
There is an expectation that the Chief Constable’s of West Midlands, Greater Manchester,
West Yorkshire and Merseyside Police, together will the Commissioner for the Metropolitan
Police will prepare clear plans for specific and costed courses of action to combat
robbery. Funds have been allocated on the basis of proportion of robberies to population. (Home Office Press Notice 160/2000)
