Timescale
The Home Office definition refers to events, which take place within a specified
time period. It is recommended that, pragmatically, a 12-month rolling period should
be used by Crime & Disorder Reduction Partners, so that if a person is burgled in
June then any crime suffered since the previous June could be included in calculating
risk.
Anything less than this may hide relevant crimes, anything more may become unmanageable.
However, this timescale is not fixed and your Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership
may decide that the nature of the problem or local circumstances mean that a longer
time period would be appropriate. For example, a holiday caravan site where holiday
makers return once a year at approximately the same time may need a slightly longer
timescale, for example 18 months to ensure that repeat crimes can be picked up.
