Rural White Paper

The Government places a high priority on tackling crime in rural areas and recognises the special demands in delivering a multi-agency crime reduction strategy to communities with low levels of population density

That is why thirty-one police forces in England and Wales benefited from an additional £15 Million allocated by the Home Office in Autumn 2000 to reflect the special needs of rural policing.

The Rural White Paper includes a section on rural crime and disorder in the chapter on tackling rural exclusion.

Related chapters include

  • Local power for country towns and villages

  • Protecting and enhancing our countryside

  • Restoring and maintaining wildlife diversity

  • Flexible rural transport

  • Market towns and a thriving local economy.

Details of the White Paper are available on the Dept of Employment Training and the Regions web site http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-countryside/index.htm
