Rural White Paper
The Government places a high priority on tackling crime in rural areas and recognises
the special demands in delivering a multi-agency crime reduction strategy to communities
with low levels of population density
That is why thirty-one police forces in England and Wales benefited from an additional
£15 Million allocated by the Home Office in Autumn 2000 to reflect the special needs
of rural policing.
The Rural White Paper includes a section on rural crime and disorder in the chapter
on tackling rural exclusion.
Related chapters include
Local power for country towns and villages
Protecting and enhancing our countryside
Restoring and maintaining wildlife diversity
Flexible rural transport
Market towns and a thriving local economy.
Details of the White Paper are available on the Dept of Employment Training and
