Talking to the public
By providing the
public (especially those most vulnerable) with accurate
information on victimisation risks, crime rates in their
council area as well as their neighbourhood, and ways in which
people could protect themselves and reduce their chances of
victimisation. Informing people is a cheap and simple way of
reducing fear. Education does not guarantee reduced levels of
fear, but will enable people to make an informed judgement
about the facts. Any information that you use will need to
come from a trustworthy source. The public will also need to
understand the real likelihood of them becoming a victim of
crime, and how they can reduce their chances of it happening.
