Milton
Keynes Research
A
questionnaire is being piloted in Milton Keynes, which in
addition to asking traditional fear of crime questions
also asked people about:
- The
neighbourhood in which they lived
- Involvement of
the individual in community safety activities in the area
- Perceived
influence in local politics
- General
questions about what was worrying people, including crime
as just one of 16 topics. Research had suggested that when
given a number of options, crime is not the top priority.
-
Behaviour as a
result of crime (positive or negative)
-
Top priorities
for the Council (crime being 1 of 11 issues)
-
Anti-social
behaviour
-
Reasons for not
contacting the police when a victim of crime
-
Quality of
service if contact with the police was made
-
Community
policing
-
General
responses to community safety
This
comprehensive approach placed fear of crime within a wider
political, social and cultural framework, which recognises
that fear of crime doesn’t exist in isolation.
