They live in an area of high crime

Suggested interventions:

  • Identify those types of crime which make people more fearful and erode their confidence about living where they do. Consult and engage with the community as they will have a more detailed knowledge of the area and which crime types are impacting on their fear and quality of life.
  • Once they have been identified introduce a programme of effective crime reduction measures. Reductions in crime will not automatically lead to reductions in the fear of crime for a variety of reasons, such as having a multi agency approach in a particular area can convince people that they have a crime problem.
  • Communication is key. Make sure the community is aware of what action is being taken and why.
