Guidance for Local Partnerships on Tackling Sexual Violence 2006

Sexual crimes have a devastating impact on victims, their families and friends, the local community, and the whole society.  Updated Guidance for Local Partnerships on Tackling Sexual Violence aims to demonstrate to Crime and Disorder Reduction and Community Safety partnerships that they have a crucial role to play in the prevention of these crimes, bringing perpetrators to justice, and providing services to victims.

Funding is now available for Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs).

This project seeks to bring together existing good practice to develop accredited standards for training and service delivery, build capacity in the sexual violence sector to deliver these services and evaluate their impact.  ISVAs will work within a multi-agency setting to provide a pro-active service to adult victims of sexual violence within and outside of the criminal justice system to:

  • risk assess and help clients keep safe

  • help clients access their rights

  • help clients access health and other services they require

  • monitor and keep client informed of case progress

  • provide support through the criminal justice system

Applications are invited from Sexual Assault Referral Centres, sexual violence voluntary sector organisations and existing Independent Domestic Violence Advisor services for grants of £20k to meet the costs of ISVAs in the second half of 2006-07.  These should have the endorsement of local statutory partners, including Crime Disorder Reduction Partnerships and the police.  Applications can either be from organisations already providing advocacy services, or from those wanting to start an ISVA service.”
