Sexual Offences Act 2003 A Stocktake
In May 2004, after 3 years of consultation, the Sexual Offences Act 2003 came into force. The Act was the first major overhaul of the sex offending legislation since 1956. It was intended to provide a framework that reflected the current nature of sexual offending and be capable of convicting and punishing the guilty. This report monitors the effectiveness of the Act so far.
