The Motor Salvage Operators Regulations 2002 set out:

The particulars that must be recorded in the register
The Motor Salvage Operators Regulations 2002 require that each motor salvage operator's entry on the register includes:

the full name and date of birth of the motor salvage operator or full names and dates of birth of all directors or partners if the business is undertaken by a body corporate or a partnership
-
the address of the motor salvage operator's usual place of residence or the addresses of the usual place of residence of partners if the business is undertaken by a partnership
-
the address of the registered or principal office where the business is a body corporate
-
the address of each place in the administrative area of the local authority that is occupied by the motor salvage operator wholly, mainly or partly for the purpose of carrying on a business as defined in Section 1(2) of the Vehicle (Crimes) Act 2001
Registration or renewal of registration requirements
The Motor Salvage Operators Regulations 2002 require that each motor salvage operator's application for registration includes:

the full name and date of birth of the applicant or full names and dates of birth of all directors if the business is undertaken by a body corporate or a partnership
-
the address of the usual place of residence of each applicant, director or partner of the business
-
the address of each place in the administrative area of the local authority that is occupied by the applicant wholly, mainly or partly for the purpose of carrying on a business as defined in Section 1(2) of the Vehicle (Crimes) Act 2001
-
whether it is an initial application to register or an application to renew registration
-
whether any previous application for registration has been refused and, if so, which local authority refused and why
-
any convictions for any offence under Part 1 of the Vehicle (Crimes) Act 2001
-
any convictions for any offences specified in an Order made by the Secretary of State under Section 3(4)(b) of the Vehicles (Crimes) Act 2001
-
whether the applicant or any directors or partners of the business is a bankrupt
Record keeping requirements
The Motor Salvage Operators Regulations 2002 require that motor salvage operators keep manual or electronic records either at their registered place of business or in the case of electronic records accessible from their registered place of business.
Records must be kept for a period of 6 years from the date of the last entry on the record for a vehicle.
Records must include:

the registration number, identification number, make, model and colour of the vehicle
-
the name, address the name, address and contact details of the supplier of the vehicle
-
details of any proof of identity shown to the registered person by, or on behalf of, the supplier of the vehicle, to establish their identity including whether the document produced was a UK photocard driver's licence, a passport, a utility bill, council tax bill or rent book, or other form of identification containing a photograph of the vehicle supplier
-
the general condition of the vehicle including details of the type of damage to the vehicle (for example whether the damage has been caused by fire, water or impact) and the part of the vehicle damaged
-
the date that the information above was entered on the record
When selling or disposing of a vehicle further details must be added to the
record:
the date of sale or other disposal of the vehicle
the name, address, and contact details of the person receiving the vehicle
details of any proof of identity shown to the registered person by, or on behalf of, the purchaser of the vehicle, to establish their identity including whether any document produced was a UK photocard driver's licence, a passport, a utility bill, council tax bill or rent book, or other form of identification containing a photograph of the vehicle purchaser
the condition of the vehicle at the time of the sale or other disposal, such as whether it was repaired, unrepaired, dismantled, or in the same condition as at purchase
the date that the information above was entered on the record
