Face to face contact Public events can provide an important way to build the public image and credibility of Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships. They are also an excellent way to establish a two-way dialogue with the local community. Organised events of all kinds provide the platform to use direct, face to face contact with a cross section of the public. Face to face contact enables you to: · tailor your message to your audience on an individual basis · talk about and explain relatively complex crime reduction messages · answer questions from your target audience immediately · clarify any confusion and address pressing concerns · listen and gather important information about people’s views and experiences in the community. Listening is as important as talking. · reach those who do not normally read newspapers, or who have lower levels of literacy. This can become a real barrier to many people, leading to isolation or exclusion. Helpful friendly advice, offered in an unthreatening ‘neutral’ setting, can assist in bridging some of the most challenging communication gaps.
