How engaging with business can help you As someone working in the crime reduction field you can probably think of many things that you or your agency could do if only you had a bit more cash. It is true that most organisations first turn to business partners because they see them as potential sources of financial support. Many local companies may be willing to fund a specific project or piece of equipment, or make other types of investment in something they can see will make a real difference. Yet money is just one way in which companies can support your cause. They can also offer: · A means of spreading your message to their employees and customers · Changes to their products or business practices that might have real crime reduction benefits e.g. motor manufacturers and car security, off-licences and underage drinking · A valuable source of skills – a personnel department may be able to provide you with volunteers or secondees who can contribute vital marketing, financial or other skills to your agency or partnership. · Resources that will reduce your costs – anything from carpet to computers, to hosting an important reception for you at their offices · A possible source of employment for people who are in the process of rehabilitation · Local credibility and support – If a respected local company backs your Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership it sends a positive message to others · Contacts – any company is likely to have contacts that could be useful to you, for example with the local media, suppliers and other business · Contracts for your services – a business might itself benefit from a crime prevention survey to help tackle its own crime problems that might also be having an impact on the wider community. |
