Berkshire Anti Homophobia Group

The Berkshire Anti-Homophobia Group (BAHG) has produced a Resource Directory and Guide for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) victims of crime and harassment. The directory is targeted at organisations working with LGBT potential victims of crime. It can be used to guide those involved in addressing homophobic crime consequences. The guide can be downloaded from the BAHG homepage or ordered from: BAHG, PO Box 3699, Bracknell, RG42 1HN.

The Berkshire Anti-Homophobia Group was established in March 1998 by members of the local lesbian, gay and bisexual community, with the directory launched upon 1st July 2003.

The aims and objectives of this group are:

  • To work towards making local communities in Berkshire safer for bisexual, gay, lesbian and trans-gendered people

  • To promote dialogue and trust between the bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgendered community in Berkshire and those agencies charged with their safety (the police, etc)

  • To develop effective communication links between the bisexual, gay, lesbian and trans-gendered community and those agencies charged with their safety

  • To monitor homophobia and homophobic crime in Berkshire and the response of the police and other agencies to these

  • To develop effective support networks for the victims of homophobia and homophobic crime

  • To promote appropriate and sensitive policies, procedures and training packages for the police and other agencies around issues of sexuality

  • To raise awareness of, and educate the wider community about the issues of homophobia and homophobic crime.

The publication of the Resource Directory has been made possible by Berkshire Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships providing grants and support.
