APACS - the UK payments association
APACS is the UK trade association for payments. It is also the banking industry voice on payments issues such as plastic cards, card fraud, cheques, electronic payments and cash. It provides a forum for banks to come together on non-competitive issues to bring about change and to develop banking systems for the future.
Card Watch is the UK banking industry's body that works with police, retailers and organisations including Crimestoppers to fight plastic card fraud. Card Watch is run by APACS, the banking industry body that oversees money transmission and payment clearing activities in the UK.
British Bankers Association (BBA)
The British Bankers' Association is the principal trade association for banks operating in the UK. It has 218 members, as well as many associate members, which fund its not-for-profit activities.
British Retail Consortium (BRC)
The BRC is a trade association representing the whole range of retailers from the large multiples and department stores through to independents selling a wide selection of products through centre of town, out of town, rural and virtual stores.
Building Research Establishment (BRE)
BRE is a centre of expertise on buildings, construction, energy, environment, fire and risk. It provides research-based consultancy, testing and certification services to customers world-wide. BRE is owned by the BRE trust, a registered charity with a mission to champion excellence and innovation in the built environment.
City of London Police
The City of London Police is responsible for policing in London's 'Square Mile'. There are about 6,000 residents in the City of London although this number is swelled daily by an influx of some 350,000 commuters, as well as people travelling through and tourists.
The City of London is the focal point in the United Kingdom for many international financial markets and is vital to the UK's economy. However, the scale of financial activity within the City also provides scope for criminals to target its financial institutions and systems. The City Police have a role to play in maintaining the reputation and security of this large financial centre and operates a dedicated fraud squad.
Department for Business, enterprise and regulatory reform (formerly Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) )
DBERR brings together functions from the former Department for Trade and Industry including responsibilities for productivity, business relations, energy, competition and consumers, with the Better Regulation Executive previously part of the Cabinet Office.
Home Office
The Home Office is the government department responsible for internal affairs in England and Wales.
The Fraud Team in the Home Office deals with policies to reduce and improve the response to fraud and is part of a wider Specialist Crimes Unit. It was formerly part of the business crime team which chaired the e-tailing consultation group meetings. That team also works in conjunction with the Home Office Scientific Development Branch (formerly the Police Scientific Development Branch) on the Chipping of Goods initiative.

The Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB) is a unique team of scientists and engineers applying technology to the fight against crime.
The Computer Crime Team have responsibility for development of the Government's Hi-Tech Crime Strategy and co-ordination of HO interests in hi-tech crime.
Intellect
Intellect is the trade body for the UK hi tech industry. Members comprise organisations from the UK's information technology, telecommunications and electronics sectors. It seeks to accelerate industry growth and prosperity in the UK; present its industry's agenda to government and the private sector; raise media awareness of the importance of the industry; build members lists of industry contacts and personal expertise; provide members with best value services & financial packages and provide members with industry knowledge and advice.
The Internet Services Providers' Association (ISPA)
The Internet Services Providers' Association (ISPA UK) is the UK's trade association for providers of internet services. ISPA UK was established in 1995 and promotes competition, self regulation and the development of the Internet industry. ISPA's main activity is in making representations on behalf of the internet industry to Government bodies, such as the Home Office, the Department of Trade and Industry and Oftel. Government and political representatives often approach ISPA for its knowledge and expertise in the industry
