Domestic Violence
The Crime Reduction Programme
The Crime Reduction Programme includes a violence against women component which will provide at least £6 million for projects addressing domestic violence and rape and sexual assault by known perpetrators. The aim of the initiative is via evaluation of these projects to assess what interventions are most effective and cost-effective in reducing these offences with a view to their national promulgation.
The bidding prospectus was drawn up following a literature review of what is known currently about different aspects of domestic violence and different interventions. It was accompanied by a series of briefing notes on the results of that research, with an indication of what appeared to be most promising. A full report of the research is planned.
The selection of projects was announced in August 2000. The Crime Reduction Programme runs until the end of March 2002.
