Crime Reduction - Helping to Reduce Crime in Your Area

Expert Chat

The Crime Reduction Website Expert Chat allows practitioners and experts in the crime reduction field to exchange ideas and expertise. Each month we provide at least one session covering a particular crime topic or examining a particular question. The Chat Calendar, below, gives the dates of forthcoming events. We also publish transcripts of previous events.

Using Expert Chat

You can access Expert Chat at www.crimereduction.homeoffice.gov.uk/chat/

The main window displays the chat that's taking place at the moment. It'll start out empty, but will soon fill up as people make contributions! On the right you'll be able to see a list of other people who are contributing to the chat.

Underneath the main window, there's a small box that says , type text below to send it to the chatroom, (where is your chosen name). You can use this box to add to the ongoing chat. Your comment won't appear on the screen right away. It'll go to our moderator who will add it into the conversation shortly.

At the end of the chat, we'll take a copy of all the comments and tidy them up into a transcript. Sometimes there can be several conversations happening at the same time. When we edit the transcript we put these into a more meaningful order, so that it's easier to follow the thread.
